Project 2: Infographic

My goal with this infographic was to illustrate how much coffee the United States imports annually compared to the tariffs imposed on the respective countries it imports from. I also pulled data from another site about how many American adults consume coffee, to further emphasize the importance of coffee to Americans.

I chose to make all of the relevant graphs brown, like coffee or coffee beans. I chose varying shades within the same palette for unity. The bar graph used a darker color for initial tariffs, and any new ones were in a lighter shade to display that they were new data. The pie chart used different shades of brown to represent each country. For the purpose of saving space in the infographic and utilizing white space, I put some of the country names in the chart. Only names that could not fit on the chart were separate. The names on the chart were white to differentiate from the darker background colors. All other text was black to contrast with the infographic background. I made the background the lightest shades of brown in this palette so that the text could stand out and the colors of the charts could also stand out. For the “people” that illustrated the amount of the US population that drinks coffee, I chose the same palette and made “coffee drinkers” darker to differentiate from the person who did not drink coffee. In creating the graphs, I used the stacked column graph tool and the pie chart tool. I used an SVG to create the “people,” pulled from an internet search with creative commons license filters applied.
