Photo Composite

For my photo composite, I chose two public domain photos, one of a person sleeping and one of a person waking up. The sequence of these photos represents the sleep cycle.

My first photo represents how tired someone can be at the end of the day, and how they need a full night of sleep in order to function the next day. They were so tired that they fell asleep with a book over their face. This first image is darker, representing how people sleep with the lights off at night.

My second photo depicts someone waking up and feeling refreshed. A good night of sleep can help someone to feel that way. The image is brighter than the first, with natural light indicating the change in time from the first photo.

In both photos, I cropped out the extra bed space to center the photos around the subjects — in this case, people sleeping or waking up. I adjusted the saturation, contrast, and brightness to accentuate the time of day in each photo. In the first photo, I increased the contrast and lowered the brightness to emphasize the darkness of the image. In the second photo, I lowered the saturation to make the whites of the photo “pop” more, and increased the brightness for the same effect. I then increased the contrast so the brightness would not be overwhelming to look at. While cropping the photos, I aligned them side by side, roughly even, to depict the contrast of the times of day.
